2013 Downland Series (320cm x 39cm)
Batik Marks on cotton with procion dye then machine and hand quilted providing marks and texture.
This was my main exhibition piece for my Foundation Degree Course completed in July 2013. It started in January, after a snowfall over the wooded and curvaceous hills of the Ems valley, from Uppark to Westbourne, in West Sussex . The snow provided a blanket across the land like a quilt. I was inspired to produce this long work by the winter landscape.
Mark making is at the centre of my practice. My art is characterised by strong sweeping lines and vibrant colours with hand and machine stitched details. I adopt quilting techniques that bring relief and sculptured effects to my pieces.
